Although i have already done a studio report about this design company, i found them interesting and relevant towards my own desires to delve deeper into their work and studio.
The Mill is based in three of the most important advertising centres which are London, New York and Los Angeles. This was, according to the woman giving us the tour of the studio, so that they could have pieces worked on for 24 hours as they are all in different time zones. They also have a network of in-house agencies called Mini-Mills.
They produce a large range of work which includes film, tv visuals, music videos, tv advertisements and even Idents.
There product range is extensive with some very impressive credentials including VFX for Gladiator in which they won an Oscar, Sony 'Balls', Sony Playstations 'Mountain' and Honda 'Cog'. The Mill have won more awards for visual effects than any other company in Europe. This level of experience comes with its own perks, including relationships with Chris Cunningham, Frank Budgen, Fredrik Bond, Ringan Ledwidge and Michel Gondry.
After visiting their studio, i realised how large the company was, with 4 (ish) floors full of designers all within their own area. They then informed us that they had just purchased another building which could house more designers. This was impressive at first, but then the scale of it all hit me, as this was probably the same in NY and LA.
The Mill is one of those studios which you know they work before you know they studio behind them. Point in question, Gladiator is a well known film by Ridley Scott which won multiple awards.
